Toronto Ravel is a diverse group of music and media professionals who gather once a month to study great orchestral music – just for the love of it. Started in L.A. in 2008 by TV’s “Family Guy” composer Ron Jones, Ravel study groups can be found in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Tokyo, and now Toronto. If an opportunity to get ‘inside’ some of the most influential orchestral music and to better understand the techniques of the great orchestrators appeals to you, you’ll want to come to Toronto Ravel.
John Herberman has worked as a composer, arranger, orchestrator and teacher for 35 years. Toronto Ravel is a natural offshoot of his privately taught courses in Basic Orchestration, and running the Orchestral Reading Session for the SCGC. It also reflects his vision of relationship-building among the disparate ‘players’ in the creation of music for media, by providing an environment where participants can interact with each other in an open and collaborative manner – in this case, by coming together to study Ravel.
Toronto Ravel meets each month (except July and August), at Hugh’s Room, 2261 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6R 1X6. Reservations are not necessary, but we ask that you let us know if you are coming so that we can plan the food. Email reservations@torontoravel.com
